USGS Landsat Program | August 4, 2026

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Land Imaging Program Coordinator provided a summary of the latest status of the USGS Landsat program. For over five decades, the Landsat series of Earth observation satellites have been delivering invaluable multispectral imagery that continues to shape domestic and international agricultural, forestry and land use practices as well as operational applications ranging from wildland fire management to consumptive water use monitoring. Freely accessible Landsat data empowers scientists, resource managers and private sector companies to examine land use changes, mitigate disasters, evaluate ecological impacts, and develop strategies for effective resource management.
