On December 4 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm ET, there will be a GIS 101 live webinar on elements of a data preservation strategy.
Elements of a Data Preservation Strategy, builds on an earlier NSGIC GIS 101 presentation, Data Preservation as a Legacy, and describes what a geospatial data preservation strategy is, the elements that need to be considered, the use of FAIR data principles (is the data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable), why geospatial metadata are foundational to data preservation, and some ways to incorporate data preservation strategies into the daily work of a geospatial team.
Denise Bleakly, GISP, is retired and worked at Sandia National Laboratories for 28 years. Her most recent research centered on long-term geospatial data preservation for environmental databases. She has given talks and lectures on geospatial data management plans, geospatial data archiving, and geospatial data preservation plans. Her retirement project is to continue giving presentations on the need to plan for geospatial data preservation to help preserve all the geospatial data collected over the last 40 years.
