Minnesota has been involved in developing tools and creating culvert inventories for use in culvert mapping for many years. These culvert inventories inform the work of DEM hydro-modification in the creation of elevation-derived hydrography. Pilot projects have been completed in two Lake Superior watersheds to create new hydrography that replicates the real world landscape hydrography. We share lessons learned from developing culvert inventory applications as well as the data structure and metadata. We also share how these culvert inventories are utilized in the DEM hydro-modification process to develop elevation-derived hydrography.
