NSGIC Recommended Validations for NG9-1-1 Data

Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) relies on GIS datasets for location validation and call routing. During the transition to NG9-1-1, 9-1-1 authorities and GIS data providers must ensure that the required GIS data layers can replace the functionality of Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) databases for address validation and call routing. To be ready for NG9-1-1, GIS addresses, roads, and boundaries will need to go through validation and most will need improvement.

The NSGIC NG9-1-1 Working Group invited NSGIC business partners to collaborate to identify GIS data validations they recommend for checking NG9-1-1 GIS data readiness. This document is an effort to compile all the validations presented into a single list of recommended validations and best practices GIS data providers can use to help prepare their GIS data for NG9-1-1. This document focuses on validations for road centerlines, address points, and service boundaries.
